The Arc of Evansville, Sycamore Services, American Airlines and Evansville Regional Airport hosted its first Wings for All® event on July 15. Approximately 32 individuals with autism spectrum disorders or other intellectual and developmental disabilities along with a family member/guardian had the opportunity to experience an airport rehearsal. Participants practiced entering the airport, obtained boarding passes, went through security and boarded a plane. The plane even accelerated down the runway to the delight of the passengers!
Lieutenant Governor of Indiana Suzanne Crouch spoke during the opening reception along with representatives from The Arc of Evansville, American Airlines, Sycamore Services, and Evansville Regional Airport. At the conclusion of the event, The Arc of Evansville received very positive feedback from the participants, and many of the families now feel better prepared for travel with a loved one with autism spectrum disorder or other intellectual and developmental disability.
We thank our many volunteers that joined us at the event! In addition, we want to recognize our supporters of the event – Evansville Teachers Federal Credit Union, Brent & Cindi Beeler, and Directions Promotions.
